Kindle Me This, Batman

blogkindle Our families buy new pets; we buy new toys. We recently became proud owners of the Amazon Kindle DX. On MSN, I saw the “Hottest 5 Technologies of 2009″ and I was shocked that we actually own one of them! We always joke that we are certainly NOT early adopters in the technology adoption curves they teach you in MBA and leadership training classes. We are frugal, very much “savers” rather than “spenders”; plus we are missionaries and grad school students, which has completely wiped out ALL of our support, and then some. Come on – we drive a 1994 Volkswagon van! We’re very content with all that God has given us.

And our 2 cents about the Kindle – we were amazed by all the books actually offered electronically. Over half of our seminary books we’re able to immediately download and read. (MEEST, the postal service between Ukr & North America, has gotten more and more expensive, so we want to curb the amount of shipping we’re doing every quarter.) We like the Kindle, and we need it for seminary.  It really does read like a book, you can underline, make notes, etc. Downfall: no page numbers! And, we are not the best sharers with each other. But so far, Kindle hasn’t caused any life-shattering arguments.
